The saudade that overcomes us at times, when we pause to think about the movies and movie stars of yesterday (on TCM), versus the movies and movie stars of today, the words and actions of leading sports figures of yesterday, versus the words and actions of leading sports figures today, and even the FBI boss of yesterday, versus the FBI boss of today (a few days ago, anyway), is emotionally overpowering.
