Franklin lived most of his life in Pennsylvania, not at all known for slave ownership, although I’m sure there were a few. General of the Army Grant commanded the force that defeated the Confederacy. Franklin owned two slaves. Grant owned one. Franklin later in life freed his slaves, King and George and actually became a leader in an abolitionist movement. Grant freed his slave in 1859.
Slavery and might makes right is the natural state of mankind. Slavery was and is practiced everywhere in the World. It is quite possible that there are more slaves by raw number in the World today than at any time ever in human history. .
