The city of Des Moines, Iowa, ordered to repay more than $90,000 in fines collected from automatic speed enforcement cameras.

A judge is ordering Des Moines to refund fines issued to hundreds of drivers who appealed speeding tickets they received from cameras on Interstate 235...
...drivers who appealed tickets from December 2013 to present...
...Most tickets were for $65
I think all camera enforcement is questionable . . . I hope the courts shut down all of them.
in colorado, these tickets are a civil matter under state law, and if you ignore all the letters and threats and dodge any attempted personal service for a total of 90 day after the picture, the whole matter is automatically mooted under state law as if it never happened, with zero consequences.
it’s a great game to play .. and fun when you win!
I’m a trucker. If I get just 1 speeding ticket I’m fired because of the company’s zero tolerence for speeding policy. Last week one of these traffic cams flashed as I went by. I had cruise control set at speed limit but I looked and was about 2 mph over. I’m hoping it got somebody else.
I got one of those on 235 in Des Moines a few years ago.
Probably too late to appeal.
I anger Desmoiniacs by calling 235 a ‘practice freeway’.
Good. But $90K is nothing.
Before the Iowa DOT forced Cedar Rapids to remove some of their MANY cameras, I read they had one camera that generated/stole more than $1 million per year. One camera!
At one time, Cedar Rapids was pulling in over $10 million per year with their speed cameras.
Stay in the right lane and you will exist over and over.
235 is one of the stupidest designs ever.
Sort of like the old speed traps of the old South ... popup stop signs, speed signs behind trees, etc. .... so much better off in the electronic era!!!!!
i hope it wasn’t you
Truckers know that speed cameras are set at 10 mph over limit. Worst case 8 over. Across the USA.
This particular camera is supposedly set at 12 mph over. I don’t know why it flashed when it did. Nobody was going that fast and it flashed just after I passed it. It really doesn’t make sense. Of course they got a trailer plate, not my tractor.
