The youngest of Manson's followers, Van Houten has been considered the least blameworthy member of the group and has been portrayed by supporters as a misguided teen under the influence of LSD on the night of the slayings.
A former homecoming queen from Monrovia, she did not join in the Aug. 9, 1969, murders of Sharon Tate, the pregnant wife of film director Roman Polanski, and four others at the Benedict Canyon home that Tate was renting.
But the following day, Van Houten was part of a group that stormed into the LaBiancas' home in Los Feliz. As Charles "Tex" Watson stabbed Leno LaBianca, Van Houten and another woman held down Rosemary LaBianca.
After Watson stabbed Rosemary LaBianca with a bayonet, he handed a knife to Van Houten. She testified to stabbing Rosemary in the back at least 14 more times. The blood of the victims was used to scrawl messages on the walls, as had been done at the Benedict Canyon home.

The Beach Boys changed some of the lyrics and Dennis Wilson was credited with composing the song. That really ticked Charlie off.
Funny. Lot of other peeps took lsd and didn’t do anything like this.
I guess maybe being part of a cult under the leadership of a guy like Charles Manson and already hiding other murders they did and thefts and stuff makes for a more inclusive trip.
More likely, they’re trying to generate understanding (understanding all forgives all) and sympathy for the poor drugged girl. I think she was no more doped out of her mind than Patty Hearst was brainwashed by the SLA.
Wish I had a copy of Joan Didion’s “The White Album” to quote from — but I don’t. But in it Didion says something to the effect of — The 60’s ended August 8, 1969. We awoke the morning after Tate-La Bianca murders in shock and disgust at what the sex and drugs, free love, peace movement of the 60’s had brought us to.
Then we lived in terror for 4 or 5 days until the butcherers were found. It was scary — everyone in L.A was on edge.
I would guess if she’d never met the control freak Mason, and came under his influence and the influence of drugs, she probably would have lived a normal life, apparently like she has all these decades in prison. I’d guess she was a dumb azz, easily influenced kid who met the devil. And at the time she met him, she had no clue what he was all about.

Okay, so they were all on death row. At least I believe they were.
Why then were their sentences reduced to life with the possibility of parole? Shouldn’t their penalties have been reduced to live without parole?
Charles Manson actually comes up for parole? Imagine that?
This woman shouldn’t see the light of day.
Her victim didn’t get a second chance. Nobody reduced her verdict? She can’t live again.

We sure ended that act rather nicely. She and two other California Supreme Court justice gone, just like that. We voted them all three out on the same day.
She was the Chief Justice too.
