Richard Branson's Necker Island home has been completely destroyed by Hurricane Irma - but the Virgin tycoon survived the deadly storm. The British billionaire retreated to his concrete bunker as the most powerful hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic hit his Caribbean complex on Wednesday. His son Sam Branson took to Instagram to tell his followers that his father and his staff were 'OK' - but stressed there had been 'lots of damage' to Necker and said one person was dead on the island of Tortola.

Surely a man of his wealth would have safe rooms for his family and rich guests.

I watched a piece about Necker island not too long ago. The place is/was extremely opulent. Only the VERY wealthy need apply.

Already pushing climate change. Pathetic. They are so clueless about storms and weather history. Just because this guy builds a house in the Carribean and gets hit by a hurricane, doesn't mean it's "climate change."

How does somebody this stupid get that much money.....

Wiki says:

The island has accommodation for 30 people and rents out in total at US$65,000 a day, US$2,167 per person a day. The cost of staying includes access to two beaches, private pools, tennis courts, scenic views, a personal chef, a team of about 100 staff and a wide array of water sports equipment.

I just wonder how much profit you can turn if you have to rebuild the whole thing every few years...

I am reminded of the church song, “Don’t build your house on the sandy land. Don’t build it too near the shore ...”

Because . . . there was climate change back in those days.

Climate change is very real: It has been happening for 4 billion years. Man-made climate change is a hoax.

FTA: The businessman also took the opportunity to discuss the need to support the Paris agreement on clean energy

How did he get to that island?
How many flights and ships and boats did take?
He should stay in England and walk to protect the planet.
