Vince Flynn’s American Assassin Will Be a Great Movie
Rush Limbaugh Show ^ | September 7, 2017 | Rush Limbaugh Review

RUSH: May as well announce this. I’m not gonna get into details because of the security nature of things, but it turns out that we will not be able to do the program here tomorrow. That will be in the hands of Mark Steyn tomorrow. But we’ll be on the air next week, folks, from parts unknown. So we’ll be back on Monday. It’s just that tomorrow is going to be problematic. Tomorrow it would be, I think, legally impossible for us to originate the program out of here.

You know, I had to cancel a bunch of stuff. I was gonna go to a private movie screening this afternoon and I had a bunch of stuff to do tonight. Now that’s all blown to smithereens. But I had a feeling that was gonna happen.

Vince Flynn’s new movie. You know, American Assassin. They’ve made a movie. It opens on September 15th. I can already tell you it’s dynamite. American Assassin is just fabulous. They were gonna have a private screening for me. There’s a big premiere in Minneapolis where Vince lived tomorrow that I can’t make.

So I was gonna have the private one.

I was gonna zip to it right after the program today, but now that’s blown to smithereens, and so I’m gonna reschedule that for parts unknown where I’m headed. But, you know, Vince passed away way, way, way too soon, and he was just beloved by everybody who knew him. His wife and kids are some of the finest people. His wife’s name is Lysa. She’s still so proud. We see her frequently. Not as often as we would like. But everybody here is just proud as they can be that one of Vince’s numerous thriller novels has been turned into a movie, and it premiers on September the 15th.

So American Assassin is it.

5 minute or so HD movie trailer at the link. Looks very action-packed.

Not exactly how I pictured Mitch Rapp nor Stan Hurley, but, based on the trailer, it looks like a pretty fair action movie. Was a big fan of Vince Flynn’s work. Miss him and Robert Parker.....

Looks like they changed the storyline. IIRC, Rapp’s motivation originated with the Pan AM 103 bombing which killed his sister? Curiosity is up anyway. Interested to see how Michael Keaton's character carries over. I thought that was the most interesting character in the book.

Re-reading “American Assassin” now so I can do an educated review of the movie. From the brief preview I’ve seen, this may be another good book bastardized by Hollywood. I sure hope not. Sadly the actor playing Mitch Rappp does not meet my expectation of Rapp’s appearance, but not as much as Tom Cruise playing Jack Reacher. Keeton might make a fair Harley but it will be based more on attitude. As a devoted Mitch Rapp fan I will attend the movie in spite of my dislike of Hollywood.

I miss Robert Parker SO MUCH! What makes me saddest is that Sunny Randall and Jesse Stone couldn’t make their romance work - and now we’ll never know. *SNIF*

Love Selleck as Jesse Stone - wish they’d make some more of those, but I can get my Selleck fix via Blue Bloods. ;)

I was surprised to see Keaton as an assassin trainer, but maybe he can pull it off?

Cruise playing Jack Reacher is an abomination!

I’ve read almost all of the ‘Reacher’ novels, and just got Beau hooked on them. I pictured Jack as a square jawed, big shouldered, crew-cut MARINE.

Cruise is a punk...who must have the world’s best agent. Blech!

Looks decent, but Hollywood can’t help ‘improving’ things. The big bad guy is a former Stan Hurley trainee played by Taylor Kitsch.

Couldn’t portray middle easterners as terrorists could they?

Hopefully it’s still a good movie.

I’ve always thought Michael Keaton was under-rated as an actor. He really got everyone’s attention with Birdman, but his performance I liked the best was in The Other Guys. Transitioning into an action star at 66 is a bit unusual, but if anyone can do it, it’s Keaton.

OK. He has done a little bit of action, but this is the first role where his physicality is essential. Keaton is known for dramatic and comedic acting. Seeing him move into a heavily action-based role is intriguing.

Well, they bastardized Lee Child’s “Jack Reacher”, with Tome Cruise, so I’ll cross my fingers.

Hope they don’t do to Mitch what they did to Reacher.

Tom Cruise... meh!

Started rereading “Reacher” books based on a thread that went down this path. I remember when the first movie came out, saw it was Cruise, and refused to watch it. Won’t even watch it for free.

Tom cruise is no Reacher. In no stretch of the imagination is Cruise, Reacher

I hope to hell they don’t do that to Vince Flynn’s “Mitch”.

Agreed! I’m not going to see the Reacher movie, either.

Robert Parker had many unfinished manuscripts and outlines, and the family has commissioned other authors to finish them. There are new Spencer and Jesse stone novels out as well as his western novels. http://www.bostonglobe.com/magazine/2013/05/11/how-robert-parker-family-has-ensured-that-spenser-adventures-continue/Ae3xng4kdtXGUi1lawut3L/story.html

Thanks for that!

I’ve been reading some of his unfinished works that other authors have picked up. They’re totally channeling Mr. Parker. ;)

I do miss, ‘Pearl’ and hope she makes a return somewhere along the line. Always LOVED Sunny Randall’s, ‘Rosie’ and of course the Jesse Stone novels had Jesse with a rescue dog of some sort...usually from the scene of a crime!

I’ve been lucky enough to recently adopt a Rescue Basset Hound also named, ‘Pearl,’ and her sister, ‘Belle.’ However, I still need a, ‘Rosie’ in my life!

Life is funny like that. ;)

Ace Atkins especially captures Parker’s style and voice....

Here’s some more fuel for the fire:

If you haven’t read, ‘I Am Pilgrim’ (Terry Hayes) do so, now!

That’s in production, too. Not sure it will match the movie in my head, BUT the author, himself, is writing the screen play, so all hope is not lost! ;)
