Netflix has a lot of money and this is a prestige piece for them. To have Scorsese, DeNiro, Pacino, Pesci make a gangster film specifically for the streaming channel is a big win that sets them apart from Amazon and Hulu. That's what they're paying for. It was never about making money in the theaters. From the moment this project was green-lighted, it was headed for Netflix. That's why it's as long as it is. They know people are going to pause it and watch it over multiple sittings.
