Good looking AND smart!
Beta-Blockers
I think they have taken my “Edge”
away a bit...
My mom is now seeing one. She adores him (she has Alzheimer’s and she love s his smile). But he lets me know that he is only offering palliative care at this point, still has her on stroke preventing drugs that I believe are unnecessary but he isn’t interested in true health for her, just keeping her comfortable. It’s ok, it is what it is, but just be careful to choose a good one that doesn’t just want to keep you comfortable until your impending doom which he assumes is day after tomorrow. It’s a little unpleasant.
My doctor is 80, does that qualify?
My PCP is an internist is specializes in old folks though she doesn’t use the designation gerontologist. I’ll stay with her.
I’m only 65 and the wife is only 67 - way too young to be going all “geriatric”.....when the Bow Flex/Treadmill/Bike start gathering dust and sex becomes a chore, we might reconsider letting some idiots telling us we’re getting old and have to start acting it....
...”A lady in Phoenix recently turned 100 and when asked what her secret to longevity was, she replied, Stay away from doctors.’’’
I agree.
...”I wouldnt be surprised if geriatric physicians are targeted during their training with propaganda about steering pts toward end of life rather than preserving life.”...
Yes.
Thar's gold in them thar tests, doncha know.
I was involved in medical malpractice insurance/claims for decades.
It’s true.
Doctors can truly do miracles, however, many mistakes are made.
And hospitals ... don’t get me started.
In fairness, a lot of frivolous law suits are made against doctors. People who were snatched from the jaws of death would sue a physician because the scar was too big.
Our doctor is one of those, but I get sick and tired of listening to him just say to me, “Hey, you are 70, now. You just can’t expect to live that much longer.”
He is younger than me and I expect to see him in the ground, first. I am going to live, really live forever, or die trying!
So far, so good!
We were notified a couple weeks ago our Internist is NO LONGER with the practice, that leaves 1 Internist and now 2 APN’s. Since I didn’t like the Internist, this does not bother me, found APN’s listen better and spend more than 5 mins with you and get your scripts right. Which the now employed elsewhere female Internist didn’t do. She was a replacement from our original Internist when he became sick and then went into deep depression when his mother died, leaving him unable to practice. He was a great Internist and spent time with his Senior patients.
We use Internist as seniors as fewer snot nosed germ carrying kids are in their offices. Don’t get me wrong, I love kids, just being realistic and having had kids know that every school year they brings every bug in the world home with them. And parents today can’t control them, they touch everything with hands that swiped a snotty nose, don’t cover mouths when they cough on those magazine germ factories in doc’s offices. I bring my own reading material as I won’t touch those germ laden things. Not had the Flu or a cold in 6 yrs. And I don’t do flu shots.
[Thar’s gold in them thar tests, doncha know.]
It’s criminal all the tests that are ordered by many physicians during the last months of elderly patients’ lives. Many order tests unrelated to their maladies, some which are very intrusive and torturous. All for the $$$$$$$$$$.
Wow, that really WOULD make me feel old.
No thanks.
“Its criminal all the tests that are ordered by many physicians during the last months of elderly patients lives”
==
And any elderly person with a brain should refuse them, that’s what I do.
.
So true so true. Stay away from doctors and add 5 years to your lifespan. Refuse the colonostopy, the flu shot, the shingles vaccine. They will try to get you on oral med for type 11 diabetes if you are even slightly elevated on the glucose test. Just say no.
Eat we’ll, exercise, stay away from junk food and take supplements.
“Beta-Blockers. I think they have taken my Edge
away a bit...”
I personally think beta blockers are extremely bad news if not absolutely necessary as they limit heart rate and most have seriously detrimental effect on mental function as well as physical energy.
If you are taking them simply for blood pressure control, there are MUCH better alternatives such as angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) which have far fewer potential side-effects than any other class of hypertensives.
The main issue is that if you have been on beta blockers for a long time, you have to be weened off of them slowly (under the care of a cardiologist or other knowledgeable care provider) to avoid an increased probability of heart attacks, and obviously replaced with some other hypertensive if that’s what they were prescribed for in the first place.
Good to know
Thanks
