They did some deal with a Soro’s organization. Have had problems ever since. Running Linux, so I am in need of a non traditional browser.

If you are running FireFox. Find something else and dump it. Do some research!!

It’s madly in love with Shockwave Flash and will try to open it at various times. it always crashes. Get that off your system ASAP.

Disable your add-ons and see what happens.

I took Flash off my system over a year ago.

Been running much better ever since.
Just installed the latest FireFox update, no problem so far.

FF has always had MAJOR memory leak issues. some version are WAY worse than others. Looks like 56 is one of the WAY worse ones. Generally, the developers blame everyone and everything else but themselves.

I usually run several versions behind the latest FF, chrome, et. al. Right now I wouldn’t recommend going past FF version 49.

I will be running Brave browser when it comes out for arch Linux. It’s running for most operating systems already.

FF has had memory leakage as far back as version 6 and 7. Even then, the Mozilla tech claimed the problem was probably in the add-ons/extensions, not in FF itself.

Some versions improved the leakage, but it has always be a recurring problem.

==

On the subject of Firefox and extensions — I have read that version 57 is going to be a comprehensive rewrite and most current extensions/add-ons will not work with version 57. Many extension writers gave up on FF a long time ago with its rapid release insanity.

Would this be why it spins and spins and I have to quit it and restart? It’s driving me nuts and I used to like it.

I froze firefox at 54.0.1 and with a couple of tabs it's using 130MB of memory. IOW, nothing.    flash, that useless piece of trash, is disabled.

Opera (chrome based) and Chrome run pretty good under Linux. Linux Firefox has problems, especially with some add-ons.

“Many extension writers gave up on FF a long time ago with its rapid release insanity.”

yet another reason I’ll stay frozen on older FF versions. The only real advantage to FF over other browsers is the plethora of useful extensions, a couple of dozen of which are ridiculously useful. It’s the major reason I stick with FF over chrome: not as rich of an ecosystem of extensions for chrome.

I have noticed that when I don’t have flash, a number of video apps won’t work...Is there an alternative??

Mine leaks memory like a sieve...I keep task manager handy and am constantly closing it.

I have a PC and would like a non-google/microsoft browser—maybe I should make the switch to Linux...

Thots?

I noticed not to long after they embraced the leftist version of fighting fake news which in the left’s case is truth, all my addons quit working so I ditched it.

I’m using palemoon(based on ff but my addons are working) and vivaldi(based on chrome/chromium but gives the option of not using 3rd party stuff aka google).

You might want to try https://brave.com/ - It’s a startup and competitor to Firefox by the former head of Firefox.

Firefox has long been leaky.

I get by keeping open windows to just a few and re-starting Firefox regularly.

The code base is huge and cranky.

I use an old IE-based browser for FR, because it has some useful tools that are no longer available, have not been updated, and have no real equivalents. However, the recent security certification issue on FR has caused IE and IE-based browsers to quit working with FR. If I log out, I cannot log back in. I knew eventually that old browser would become obsolete.

I stay several versions behind with Firefox. However, more and more websites balk and are sluggish to load with the older versions. I am currently at version 52 ESR release. The ESR releases are not updated as frequently.

Also, websites converting to ‘mobile friendly’ are really creating havoc in the way they operate. Trying to page down and read articles, for example, is a job. The page jumps, etc., and I have to page up and down to find out where I was reading before it opened more junk below.
