He was one of a handful in the state, and after testing/processing, his blood would be put in a flat pack, and immersed in LN2 before heading off for the deep freeze until it's really needed for a type-specific recipient.
I went to school with a guy who also had a rare blood type.
He and the few people in the world who have it donate blood very often so it will be available if one of them needs it.
