It is not at all far fetched. A few years ago someone was writing a lot about possible planting of porn on suspects' computers. Many of the people accused of crimes had the identical porn on their computers. It was felt that it was planted.
Years ago they would get a criminal on tax evasion. That's how they got Al Capone. Maybe the new hook is kiddy porn.
