Haas needs Ferrari clarification after quit threat
Friday, 10 November 2017
By Chris Medland / Image by Andy Hone/LAT

Haas wants clarification from Ferrari over its future Formula 1 plans by the end of next year in case it needs to find a new partner.

At present, Haas has a strong technical partnership with Ferrari that extends beyond a power unit supply deal, having utilized it to enter the sport in 2016. However, Ferrari president Sergio Marchionne warned his team could quit if it is not happy with F1’s proposal for new power unit regulations after 2020, and Haas team principal Gunther Steiner wants to know if the threat is serious by the end of 2018.

Asked by RACER if Haas is established enough to be able to respond if Ferrari did pull out, Steiner replied: “You put it a lot too easy there!

“I hope we know by the end of next year what Ferrari is doing because we need to make decisions as well. We would not be ready to walk on our own, let’s say if you told me now Haas has to walk on its own next year, it would be very difficult, if not impossible.

“They are here next year anyway, I know that, but I don’t want to wait to the last minute to make a decision. If they make the decision I have to respect it. I have no vote in it but my hope is that they stay – but not only for being selfish, for the sport.”

Asked whether he felt such threats from Ferrari – as well as negative comments from Mercedes and Renault – are bad for F1, Steiner says the bigger picture should be what is good for the sport rather than Haas itself.

“I think I’ll leave that one to them – I don’t want to take any part in that battle. For sure they are fighting their corner, which they have to. I’m not involved in the Ferrari side or the Liberty side on that one and I don’t want any part of that battle, but for sure it would be a big loss for Ferrari.

“We’d have to find an engine... One door closes, another door opens, such is life. At the moment I’m not looking for alternatives to Ferrari, my hope and my belief is still that Ferrari will agree to stay on in F1 for the good of F1, not only for the good of us giving us an engine, and the same for Ferrari, that F1 helps them. So I hope they stay and we can continue to bring the sport up instead of bringing it down.”

Only once in quite a few years have I been able to watch F1 via either of the sources mentioned. Normally I don’t need it as I have Dish Network, but occasionally I can’t find Q or the live race and TV doesn’t normally cover the three practice sessions, plus the commentary the one time I was able to access was really superb compared to what broadcast TV has.

The issue with both of your listed services is the difficulty in my case of logging in. A pure blizzard of sources coming in to ask for money and login not associated with the sources you listed and coming in on top of the two you list. It is to the point of why bother when there is not a step by step to avoid getting yourself signed up for something that you are not interested in while in pursuit of F1.

I have managed to get the FAQ up for rojadirecta.tv without some other media “giant” jumping in, but it is unclear why I have to join or if I have to join the Forum in order to access the live feed. Hope you are able to shed some light on things as I see them, which ain’t really clear if you get my drift. I have no idea how I succeeded the one time I was able to receive the feed, which of course further complicates the issue.

Thanks for listening, and while you are listening can you explain the need for the long term thread vs the individual race thread. Never quite processed that. I’m off to participate in the local Veteran’s Day Parade in the ‘07 Mustang, so it might be a while before I’m back.

i think they’ve changed over the years, use a VPN if you can

the F1-GP thread is a place to put all kinds of things(news, gossip, other formulas/classes) in one place making it easier to find stuff and things not related to a given race or even F1

there’re some great pics and video in there

Having not watched F1 in years because it just got boring, I got up early to watch the Brazil GP to see if anything had changed. Sadly, it's only gotten worse.

I fell asleep after Hamilton pitted, and woke up to see Vettel doing his victory burnout. And I didn't care.

Only 20 cars. Only 90 minutes. Only two real contending teams. And no racing flat-out either. Tire management, fuel consumption management. And the cars sound like a violent, loose bowel movement.

On the other hand, I watched the last race of the Japanese Super GT season last night. It. Was. Freakin'. AWESOME.

40 cars in 2 classes. Flat-out racing from start to finish, every race. Not one dull moment from flag to flag. And the sound from those cars is simply gob-smacking lovely.

F1 stinks anymore. Take me off the ping list please.

Nice outcome. Nice facility. Vettel could likely beat Hamilton in an equal car.

Hamilton deserves lots of credit for almost driving from last to the podium.

Enjoyed the race. Good nobody was injured.

It interests me how well most of the drivers, speak English. Plus their native tongue, and probably a couple of others, too.

Kubica to Williams

Contract of 1 year

Kubica is bringing €8mi in sponsors and Williams need the money because lost two sponsors (Randstad and Avanade)

Nico Rosberg (Kubica's manager) was an important factor

Kubica made two tests with Williams (Silverstone and Hungaroring) and will test on Abu Dhabi after the last race.

On Abu Dhabi they will do another physical test, includind leave the cockpit in under 5 seconds. After that they will anounce him and they pretend to explore the marketing on him to earn some money

He will have an adapted steering wheel, most commands are on the left side. He will use the same lever to go up and down on marches, pulling to rise and pushing to reduce. First time this will happen on F1.
