Nazism (national, not international, socialism) was partly based on Italian Fascism which wad also a movement of the Left. Benito Mussolini was the foremost socialist in Europe before the First World War.

Progressives in the United States deliberately changed their name to Liberals during the 1920s, after conceding the obvious - that they had piled up too much bad press before and during the First World War to continue to be effective.

Whatever name they prefer, the Left is monumentally uninterested in their own history. They were wildly infatuated with Mussolini and Hitler and missed no opportunities to lecture the American public on how those guys were they way of the future. The torrent of praise continued after Germany invaded Poland to being the Euro phase of the Second World War; the Left was a major player in the America First isolationist movement.

All of this kept on until The Third Reich invaded the USSR. Then the Left reversed themselves and bean demanding American intervention. The Soviet Union was their favorite country.

No historical revisionism can come close to the enormity of the falsehoods that the Left still voices, concerning the purported right-wing orientation of Nazi Germany. TV documentaries on History Channel and American Heroes Channel have been explicitly declaring that when the Nazis assumed power in Germany, they deliberately transformed themselves from a movement of the Left into a movement of the Right: the “proof” of this change is alleged to be the cozy, cooperative behavior of the German government in its dealings with German industry.

Major firms - Krupp, IG Farben, DWM, MAN, Junkers, Heinkel, Henschel were some - were indeed suffered to exist because they were key players in Nazi rearmament and infrastructure rebuilding plans, but they did the government’s bidding, not the other way around. But every other aspect of Nazi “reform” of German society (art, culture, education, religion, whatnot) went forward in lockstep with Left orthodoxy.

Every other German institution that was merely suspected of being a safe harbor for Right views was treated as a threat by the Nazis and suppressed ruthlessly, in much the same way they treated rival subgroups inside the Nazi movement, and rival political parties.
