The prospect of Russia boycotting an Olympics for the first time since 1984 is a step closer after its national anti-doping agency failed to have its suspension lifted.
The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (Rusada) was declared noncompliant with the World Anti-Doping Agency’s rules when the details of Russia’s systemic cheating first emerged in November 2015. With the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang just 12 weeks away, Thursday’s Wada foundation board meeting in Seoul was the last scheduled chance for Rusada to convince anti-doping leaders it had met the terms of a “road map” to compliance.

Didn’t Russia use the last Winter Olympics to hide and Army so they could invade The Crimea ?
1) Alternating the Summer and Winter Olympics in different years.
2) Allowing professional athletes to compete.
3) End of the Cold War.
4. The corruption bribery process set up by the IOC.
5. Corrupt judging, see Boxing, Ice Skating etc.
That's the biggest reason, IMHO.
6. Negative impact on local economy, see Brazil.
Wow, no Russia and no NHL.
Sloveinia might Gold Medal in hockey.
Then olympics should be in 3 or 4 countries only. Build a complex in Athens with international funds. LA always has a lot mob venues spread out geographically. Maybe the Bay area in norCal. London, Moscow. Just a handful that don’t have to incur billions in building to host. Beijing.

IMHO, the BEST Winter Olympic event is the Men’s Downhill.
The best skiers in the world going down a mountain as fast a they can(80+ MPH).
Fastest one down wins. Simple.
7. Too many “human interest stories” instead of actual events shown.

How about the addition of new “sporting events” that really shouldn’t be in the Olympics?
Probably just as well. The Russkis would probably “hack” the Olympics and distract everyone from the anthem kneelers from the Divided Tribal States of America. We can’t allow that to happen.
I like the multiple channels more events. Maybe the internet can do the same.
I agree about the human interest story. Give us a program where we can link to the stories or not. Let its link to info about the athlete’s performance including clips of the olympic trials or international competitions. I can select or just watch the main events
Don’t run events in prime time and pretend they didn’t originally run at 3 PM earlier.
The world cup is in Russia next year a few months after the winter Olympics. I can see them just boycotting and focusing on the World Cup.
Actually the internet does do the events. Their coverage is light-years ahead of the networks. They show the entire event with bare bones commentary. For example, when they cover the downhill skiing, you see every competitor. No sob stories. Funny thing is it”s an NBC website.
None of those things. What killed the Olympics was adding every fringe sport imaginable and TV networks doing a terrible job of coverage.
In the US, it was NBC.
