King of Swamp Castle: When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built it all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up. And that’s what you’re going to get, Lad, the strongest castle in all of England.

Sometimes I wonder if the authors of articles such as this read their own work? To wit:

and the researchers believe that the level was far lower at the height of the Urartian society than it is today, slowly rising over time to cover parts of the city.

Are there researchers who believe that the lake level did not vary and that the people who built this castle did so underwater?

Earlier this year they announced the discovery of a Russian ship believed to have sunk in 1948.

Must be due to Global Warming. The lake waters rose faster than the vessel could compensate...

Tahsin Ceylan, head of the diving team on the project, first came in search of the Lake Van Monster, but uncovered a lost city instead.

No, but they might have suspected that the land the castle was built on, later subsided.
