600 km/s could get you a speeding ticket in most galaxies.

I knew it!! Clearly we have a case of galactic climate change.

Peculiar velocity = The Rapture.

1 Peter 2:9
(KJV)

9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

[[moves at about 600 kilometers per second with respect to the leftover radiation from the Big Bang.]]

Uh Huh- tell that to God when ya see him- He’ll likely be unimpressed with your conclusions

Nice article, thanks for posting.

Astronomers generally stay away from the “Zone of Avoidance.” When one astronomer didn’t, she found a giant cosmic structure that could help explain why our galaxy moves so fast.

"How to Discover Secrets of the Universe for Dummies".

Now there's a paradox that's sure to swallow up entire galaxies of established wisdom.

Big Bang?

Wasn’t that dismissed a few weeks ago by another scientific/astronomical group?

They recently pointed the Hubble at an area where it appeared to have no stars as it was referred to aa large black void. Well they found millions of stars,.opps

“Called peculiar velocity”

That’s what I told that policeman.

“Do you know how fast you were going?”

“No. I’m suffering an episode of peculiar velocity.”

Cost me $250.

"...the universe itself is expanding..."

That theory has been falsified, but establishment cosmologists refuse to even look at the evidence.

Search the term, 'electric universe' for more info.

The Shapley Supercluster itself (along with everything observed to date in the Universe) is moving toward some other object still more massive and sometimes refereed to as the Great Attractor in Sagittarius.

Some bad news for you folks. Our galaxy, The Milky Way Galaxy is heading straight for The Andromeda Galaxy, actually the two are on a collision course, at a speed of 400.000 mph. The good news is we’re 2 million, 300,000 light years apart.( a single light year, the distance light travels in a vacuum in one year is is around six trillion miles). But we’ve got some time yet. So if there is anything you’ve wanted to do or needed to get done, you’ve still got some time to do it. And now back to our regular programming.

If I recollect correctly, ludicrous speed is the magnitude of peculiar velocity.

While everything in the universe is constantly moving because the universe itself is expanding
-------------------------------------------------------------
Oh, dear, no. The space a galaxy is sitting on is expanding but, absent gravitation interaction with other galaxies, the galaxy isn’t moving at all.

Think of raisins in a cake. As the cake expands, a given raisin doesn’t move relative to its surrounding dough. As seen for the viewpoint of another raisin, the rest are moving while it stands still.

A galaxy’s internal integrity is protected from spatial expansion by its own gravitation.

As for the subject of the article, I thought the Great Attractor was already identified.
