Those are shoes, not bones. And I’ve seen this room before in documentaries. There are other rooms that look like they have a million shoes in them, but the narrator of whatever documentary it was said it was only a few thousand. Probably from the last victims of Auschwitz before it was liberated.
Thanks for the clarification. I stared at the photo and saw the shoes but it looked like there were yellowed bones as well. Perhaps they were sandals?
My great uncle, a vet, said his unit went into these camps and the army sent in black soldiers to clean them up. It really messed him up. I suspect it was one of the things that eventually led to his suicide.
