Legend has it they have water, water everywhere.
Nor any drop to drink.

>>I have noticed in home like that there are no chairs or couches that you can just flop onto

Well, they lived in theirs, so the room that led to all the other rooms had two big recliners and a huge TV set in the middle of the space. They're gone from the real estate site photos.

The reception area wasn't so comfy unless you got the sofa.

What amazed me was that she left the front door unlocked so people just walked in.

We always ate in the smaller dining room, but when I printed out our ENORMOUS familytree, she and I taped it together on this table.

It sounds absolutely wonderful. Even with the owls. We had an oriole that came back year after year int he spring to bash its beak into the kitchen window. Is mating why?

Yes, the males think they’re fighting off competing males which are actually their reflection in the window.

I think he diminished his chances. Who wants a mate with a bruised beak.

Not a very bright evolutionary strategy, you’d think they’d have inadvertently bred that trait out by now due to the dummies dying from smashing their heads into windows repeatedly. But, they’re still at it, my mom even has a problem with them messing up her car fighting themselves in the side mirrors.

Wasn’t it considered very British for the house to be really cold and the inhabitants freeze?

I don't know about that, I can't really say since I lived in the barracks and when I traveled I stayed at Bed and Breakfasts and they were all warm but they are expected to be warm. In the winter I was always cold outside but I don't think I'm ever going to be warm unless I live in some place like the Florida keys for winter.

I’ve got about 20k books about 20% are probably PBs, most of them I’ve gotten from library and estate sales but they go back 50 years to stuff I got as a kid. My wife makes me keep my “trash” in the basement where I’ve installed custom shelfing .... sigh the things you do for love.
