I want no part of the Catalonians. Historically they were the home of the Communists in Spain (Spanish Civil War era) and that mentality still permeates their politics.
Just because you’re fighting globalism doesn’t necessisarily make you a good guy.
No catalans ever. It’s the most left wing part of left wing Spain and still has the anarchist mentality that distinguished it during and before the Spanish Civil War. The anarchist assassinations and voter fraud, in fact, destabilized Spain and probably laid the conditions for it.
Too bad this is fake news. The US would be better off without this supplier of electoral poison. Voters who have moved from PR are poised to inject their left wing influence into Florida politics.

Independence would be good too
Even though it is the end of December, it had to be an “April Fools” type of story. Spain is suffering from the Catalonia Crisis and to take on Puerto Rico (ironically ‘Rich Port’) on top of that would be the absolute height of madness!

Yes but that’s because they have a parliamentary system and all the many little leftisy parties have adopted the “independence” stuff and have now formed a coalition. (One says its dream is a pure socialist state - like the old Albania!). The single party that got the most votes is C, Ciutadans (Citizens), sort of the equivalent of a serious conservative non-independence party (the PP, the theoretically Conservative party, is like the GOP, a joke that nobody trusts).
But the way things work in a parliamentary system is through coalitions, which gives tiny lefty parties a lot of power.
That was big news this summer.
Day of the Holy Innocents
In Spain and Latin America is usual to make jokes of all kinds on this date. The media makes jokes or misrepresents their content in such a way that the information seems real. It is a freedom given by media agents to give free rein to their sense of humor, an opportunity they only have once a year. It is tradition that the newspapers publish entire pages of comic news, with the warning that it is the day of the innocent, ranging from those that are an obvious mockery to any recent event, to those that seem serious and deceive the unsuspecting reader. The day of the innocents is lived throughout the Spanish-speaking world.
