Maybe a carbon tax would fix it. You’re welcome!

In Lower Alabama here there was the Great Blizzard of '89. Snow on the ground up to 3" for the 23rd-25th of December. One of the local bridges iced over and the local authorities called somewhere up north to ask what to do. The other end said "rock salt." Local boy said we don't have any of that. Other end said "do you have sand?" Well yes, we have sand, lots of sand.
As I was approaching that bridge I saw a line of dump trucks piled high with sand. When they opened the bridge the first cars got stuck in the 7" of sand they had dumped on the bridge and the bridge was closed again until they shoveled up all that sand. By the time they got it all gone the temperature had come up and the problem was gone away.
After Christmas Day the temperature did not go below 50 degrees for the rest of the winter.

LOL!!

Little huts you set up on the ice on frozen lakes.
Ya sit in them with holes drilled in the ice and catch fish straight down.

Check out this video... even has trucks driving 16 miles out on the ice! :-)

I could tell it was going to be a hard winter while up there last fall. By the size of the firewood piles.

Yeah, the Indians were cutting a lot of firewood....

Grew up in Sioux Falls SD in the 60s, stationed in Minot ND, in the 70s, Nebraska and western SD in the 80s, and now 28 years in Omaha. In SD and ND, 20 below was average with blinding three day blizzards. Thirty below was not unknown at all. In Nebraska below zero is not uncommon either. These extremes come in cycles of snow and extreme cold.

Common sense, attention to the possible health threats and prep are the key. New Years Eve here should be a three cat or dog night with below zero highs in the daytime. Been there, endured it before but it always seems odd that Anchorage AK has 20 to 40 degree higher temps than we do here.

I’ve read about the ways of you people in the frigid North.

But the National Weather Service says for Dec-Jan-Feb 2018-19

Which is what it always (except one time in my viewing) says for the NE, warmer than normal. And for the record (esp. for Erie PA)
