Technology making it easier to see how much of your life is spent on the telly. I need a beer drinker calculator to see how many gallons have passed through me.

Time spent doing anything that I choose to do is what makes my life mine.
It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks of it.
I spent waaaay more time reading the 5 GoT books twice then I’ve spent watching the TV series, however, I very much enjoyed both of these choices.
The only way it becomes a waste in my mind is if the stupid, fat, lazy, liberal bastard doesn’t finish writing the last two books, which I think is what will happen.

Aside from the first couple of episodes, I haven't watched the series, so I'd say I only wasted (at most) a couple of hours. But the TV series isn't as good as the books - and the books are only good through "A Storm of Swords".
Quite frankly, Joe Abercrombie's "First Law" books are better than Martin's never-ending saga - they don't quite hit the highs that Martin's best writing does, but they also aren't anywhere near as bad as Martin's last two books, and Abercrombie knows how to finish a story. If someone could make a creditable TV series out of the "First Law" series, I'd definitely watch it.
"It is forbidden to touch the Other Side direct. Forbidden to communicate with the world below, forbidden to summon demons, forbidden to open gates to hell. Such is the First Law, the guiding principal to all magic".

Spoiler Alert:
The next season will be in the spring of 2019 and will consist of one episode, in which the Night King leads the Walkers and Wights to the south and destroys all mankind.

Still have my 9.1 days, never watched it.The clock still kept ticking so you were doing something. Any series is on for a limited time in a week and a limited amount of weeks in a year. I spend a lot more time watching Tucker Carlson than any tv series.

The Simpsons would take 10.8 days... ;-p
