California is extraordinarily beautiful and the weather is incredible therefore I just ignore all the politicians in about politics and don’t talk politics with my wife and therefore it’s livable
Truly the only way to survive here. If this were a borderline purple state politically, then it might be worth the effort to fight for change. But California is too far gone.
FYI, not everything about the state is beautiful. Air quality sucks most places in the state, other than at the coast and in the mountains. If you live at the coast, the odds are good you are inundated with tourists for over half the year. My wife and I don't drink the tap water and haven't in over 30 years. Water prices have gone up 5-fold in that time.
And don't get me started on the water mismanagement in the state (releasing water from reservoirs because of earthquake concerns, concerns they have known about for decades and didn't fix them during the droughts when water levels were low enough to allow such upgrades/repairs).
Stationed at El-Toro 1960s - then later on lived in Cal.
Short drives to the mountains one way, the desert another and the seashore to the west.
Great car culture, pretty girls, good jobs, great sailing, hiking, hunting and camping.
It was a terrific place to be in those days!
Dont forget that in 1967 and 1971 Californians elected republican Ronald Reagan as Governor
And he could have easily been elected a third time but decided not to run.
But thats before the state took a 90° turn to the left and decided to go berserk.
Eventually I had to leave because of the craziness.
He said as he whistled past the graveyard.
