If I didn’t bother to denote where I wanted something saved or pay attention to where I last saved it, I just do a search from the libraries address bar. That goes much faster than searching from the start search bar.

“You forgot to have half of your brain removed. Try it again after that and you’ll love it.”

Well, I don’t know what that means (or how to take it), but I’m an old guy - 72 - and learned computers on Windows 3...the file/folder days.

Have no desire to delve into learning, or understanding, “libraries”.

Just talked to my son - he’s a programmer - and he says he can easily convert (read: “dump”) the libraries which would get me back to the file/folder concept.

Have a nice day.

I didn’t mean it in a bad way, it’s microsoft’s way of dumbing down a computer, they all do that.

I usually just go to ‘C’ or ‘F’ and work down from there.

I hate Win7 too.

My old standard WinXp is 100 times better and faster on simple files and folders management.

I use the Win7 to host my dlna to my Smart TV.

Its a joke.

On the Smart TV I can find .avi files. But won’t work with .mkv or .mp4 files. Won’t support any subtitles. These are all Win7 and WMP caused issues.

And as you point out in the ‘properties’ There is another filename in there that is a pain to change. The TV sorts by the properties filename — when it would be 100% better if everything would use the visible filename in the explorer.

What used to be simple is now a myraid of properties and crap that makes our lives hell.

Buy a Mac Mini and load your content to iTunes, they are very reasonable: $499:

Run through an Apple TV or VLC

I run 500+ dvd’s/BluRays and 700 cd’s plus 100+ TV shows.

Simple to do.

bookmark.
My iMac is ~9 or 10 years old. I fear I will need to get the answer to this eventually myself.

The problem may be in the user account....
If you reinstall the OS, but not as a clean install, it wont update, or replace the User account.

Also...
Have you tried booting while holding ‘shift’

Yeah, Frank, what’s up with the Library thing? I don’t get it. I have the same problem you do. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s like some kind of short cut? But not really? Anyway, I can’t find anything either with it although I’ll try the trick the kind poster suggested of searching within the library search.

If you know more about libraries than I do, which is nothing, please share.
