Michael Crichton’s stuff would be hard to improve on in any form.

True. And coincidentally, last night I tuned into TCM and watched the original Westworld movie for the 1st time. I was familiar with the film but had never watched it beginning to end and did know that Crichton wrote and directed it. The original The Andromeda Strain was brilliant IMO.

True story, in the late 80’s my best friend was taking a creative writing course. She had always leaned toward reading sci-fi so that is what most of her writing was geared toward. She had two young children at the time and no computer at home so after her kids were in bed and her husband home from work, she’d come over to my house to type out and print stories for her class and sometimes ask me to read and proofread.

One idea she had, but never finished writing IIRC, was a story set in the future about an amusement park on the Moon, the various parks were under big domes with artificial atmospheres. And the big attraction was a park with cloned dinosaurs. I seem to recall that she mentioned that the dinosaurs were cloned using the blood of not misquotes, but in her story outline, ticks that had feed on dinos and had been trapped in amber. And of course, the dinos eventually run amok.

I thought it was a cool story idea.

A couple of years later a co-worker of mine told me about the new Michael Crichton novel Jurassic Park and lent me her copy to read. After I finished reading it, I called my friend to ask her if she remembered her short story idea, and I pointed out the similarities of her story outline to Jurassic Park and we laughed that she should have finished it and published, even if with a vanity publisher as she might have sued for big bucks. Of course it was a coincidence.

Sort of like the coincidence in the conversation I had with my brother one day back in the early 80’s about my idea of an electronics store, but big and on the scale of a department store in size but only selling the very latest technology in TV’s, stereos, VCR’s, gaming systems, personal computers, music CD’s and video cassettes and at discount prices. As it turned out what I was envisioning was exactly what eventually became Best Buy. If only I had had the financing to do it before hand. LOL!

After painting the entire interior of my house over several months, an old house with 12’ ceilings and using a wooden step ladder, I told my husband that it would be great if there could be a ladder that had wider rungs for comfort and on the top a place, a well to hold either a paint can and or paint tray and a place to keep tools and tape, etc. so you didn’t have to go up and down the ladder so often. My husband told me I was crazy but damned if someone didn’t do it.
