And they think the M27 will replace M249 in many cases for sustained automatic fire...that remains to be seen.
Some criticisms of the M27 IAR I’ve read.
- Heavier by 2 lbs.
- Bolt life only around 9,300 rds.
- Not completely trusted acting as an LMG. M249 will be still be kept at the company level. M27 is at squad or fire teams.
- Parts not made in the USA.
- Marines have switched to the M855A1 that is hard on barrel life. M27 is already a costly weapon - going to make maintenance costs very high.
