The analyst believes the Alabama quarterback will live up to the hype.
Trent Dilfer is ready to make his 2018 Heisman Trophy pick.
The former NFL quarterback-turned analyst has seen enough from Alabama freshman Tua Tagovailoa to believe that hell win college footballs most-prestigious award next season.
Dilfer made his pick during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show on Wednesday.
I think hell win the Heisman next year, Dilfer said, per 247Sports Brad Crawford. Everyones going to say, Thats hyperbole. Dilfer raving about an Elite 11 kid. I got a bunch of Elite 11 kids. Jake Fromm was an Elite 11 kid. I think this kid (Tagovailoa) is as special as any kid since Jameis Winston. Because hes at Alabama because hell have to compete this spring no matter what. Nicks going to demand it, and hes going to continue to get better. Because theyll now run an offense that makes sense and threatens all parts of the field.(about damn time).
The runners will be better because theyll have lanes to run in. The offensive line will be better. Theyll convert more third downs, and their defense will be better. Alabama will be the best team in the country, and hell be the best player on the best team in the country.
Dilfer had worked with Tagovailoa before at his Elite 11 camp for high schools top quarterbacks. The former NFL quarterback had previously called Tua probably the most gifted passer Ive seen at this age.
Alabama will likely start the 2018 season ranked No. 1 in the country with Tagovailoa named as a Heisman Trophy frontrunner. Good luck living up to all of that hype.

I've read comments that Tuu often practiced with Alabama's team 2 against the Alabama team 1 defense and ran them crazy.
Trent said that Tuu was playing at NFL level when he was at the Elite facility after high school.
Tuu's brother is graduating from high school (quarterback) this year and is being recruited by Alabama and Tenneessee....my brother just texted me that he thought he'd signed with Tenneessee. Don't know.

Good grief...a great 1/2 game vs UGA, plus clean-up duty in blowouts...Tuu is good but he will have to be outstanding in 12 or so games before he wins the award; plus tons of hype by the national media.
Dilfer may or may not be right about this, but this Ravens fan still thinks hes THE MAN!
ditto for dilfer...
humble and adequate.
love him.
Go RAVENS! can’t wait til next year!
How the Hell did this clown win a SB and is all of a sudden this football guru?
Do I care? Nope!
That half of football became the ‘freshman show’, with Tua connecting with freshmen Ruggs, Jeudy, and Smith. I really don’t know/care about the Heisman, but Tua is poised to put up some killer yardage next year.
I saw a lot of Tebow in him in the Championship Game.
Like Jameis Winston, not a high standard there.
You cared enough to reply.
Tua (#13)
Too many freshmen to count. I think the left tackle got hurt and a freshman filled in...but I think the entire O line (less center) is coming back anyway. Its scary to think about the potential of Bama’s offense next year.
I believe his full time job these days is finding and developing quarterbacks. A lot of football ‘gurus’ never played at the pro level (Saban), so I think Dilfer’s got an adequate enough resume.
I've been harping about the offense since the last second lost to Clemson last year. Our offense should be good enough that we have enough points on the board that the outcome will not be decided in the closing seconds of a game. Hurts cannot pass....that's our problem.
WTF didn't Saban have him as QB?
Jalen Hurts sucks at QB! He can't throw!
I will say it probably was a good thing that Saban didn’t replace Hurts, until the last possible moment.
Georgia would have been better prepared for Tua had Tua been the starter previously.
Saban had his “Ace in the Hole” and brought it out at just the right time.
My daughter will be a senior next year at Bama and the championship game will be played at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara.
I’m an Aggie, but I’m all in on Bama for next year. I think it would be fun to go to the game. Going to try to get tickets very early. I can sell them if Bama doesn’t go.
We live in San Jose. Minor detail I forgot to add.
Sounds great. Congratulation to your daughter. I used to live in Santa Clara. If you go, Go see The Winchester Mystery House which isn't far away in San Jose.
Oh! I didn't see this post when I posted the other one, lol.
