Stevie Nicks Reveals Fleetwood Mac's 'Paid the Same' Policy

SNIP

The singer, who joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975, said she and fellow bandmate, Christine McVie, did not experience much sexual harassment over the course of their meteoric careers.

"I think I've been very lucky," she said. "And maybe it's because when I joined Fleetwood Mac, Christine and I made a pact. We said we will never ever be treated like a second class citizen amongst our peers as we get more famous and more famous -- and if we're in a room with famous rock n' roll stars that are men and they treat us that way, we will scream at them and then we'll walk out."

"We've been a force of nature our entire career, so nobody has dared to step over that line to Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks," she continued. "I'm such a raging monster when I'm angry that it would have never worked, so I'm really glad I never had to run into that."

As for the ongoing conversations about pay disparities between men and women in entertainment and across industries, Nicks said she's in full support of those calling for pay equity.

"Fleetwood Mac has two women and we all get paid the same," She said. "And if we didn't, Christine and I would be walking out the door."

Oh yeah, she got married out of some obligation, then got quickly divorced.

Maybe he did.

She wasn’t interested in staying with him after a certain point, until he started dating others.

But then I guess forgiveness was not to be.

She should have stayed with Walter Egan.

They had a magnetic attraction.

Might could agree with you on that one.

She says that she loved Joe Walsh more than anyone. Which seems weird.

Stevie called the shots from day one with Lindasy, he had to get her in the band before he could join. She’s had her demons like the rest but is a strong woman.

Now, I want to see “Stevie Nicks and the Heartbreakers”. Enough with the honorary stuff, now that Tom’s gone she should step in.

I think taking her to the memorial to his deceased little girl touched her heart. He’s not attractive and seems like a weirdo, but maybe he’s a good guy in real life.

Heh. That’s actually an interesting idea. Mike Campbell is great.

I don't think he's a weirdo. I love that song, "Walk Away."

Takin' my time
Choosin' my lines
Tryin' to decide what to do
Looks like my stop
Don't want to get off
Got myself hung up on you

Seems to me
You don't want to talk about it
Seems to me
You just turn your pretty head and walk away

It just seems weird because they were so strung out at the time, both of them. That seems like it would be a hard time to fall in love.

I've always generally liked Joe Walsh.

I can always surprise people with the crazy intro to Meadows. I like the James Gang and Pretty Maids is one of my favorite Eagles songs.

Pretty Maids is one of my favorite Eagles songs.

I think I'm stuck with "Wasted Time" for right now.

It might change next week.

I saw one of the shows from that tour. She came out and sang a couple of songs each show. She was actively lobbying to quit Fleetwood Mac and join the Heartbreakers. Tom said he told her, “That’s nice, but there are no girls in the Heartbreakers”.

I always thought he tired of Stevie and wrote “Don’t Come Around Here No More” about her.

She was banging Mick Fleetwood too.

And she was banging Tom Petty's producer Jimmy Iovine when he convinced him to hand over 'Stop Draggin My Heart Around' to her as a duet on her album and didn't tell him about the relationship.

He was quite ticked about it.

It doesn't seem rational, but I think she thought she really loved Mick.

Supposedly she wrote the first part of "Storms" about Mick.

Every night that goes between
I feel a little less
As you slowly go away from me
This is only another test

Every night you do not come
Your softness fades away
Did I ever really care that much?
Is there anything left to say?

Every hour of fear I spend
My body tries to cry
Living through each empty night
A deadly calm inside

No! That song was based on what she said to Joe Walsh. She had broken up with him that night. He came to the door, a Dave Stewart heard her tell Walsh, "Don't come around here no more," when Walsh came to the door.

Stewart and Petty wrote the song for Nicks to sing. But she thought Petty's vocals were too good on the song.
