It’s more than a third of a Saturn V’s lift capability.

All of these companies now think of themselves as “International” companies. How do we know that the technology is not being leaked to Iran, NKorea, and other places? Who is watching them, the FBI?

NASA is controlled by non technical bureaucrats, few competent technologist/engineers are left. So really, not many NASA gov employees left to oversee/plan space contractors.

There is room in that design for 4 more boosters.

It’s about time someone realized this. And the earth is 4,000 years old and Dino bones were in the earth when it was created.

And Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone.

Some folks will believe anything. Believe nothing...

He’s selling launch services at a competitive rate. Yes, the gov’t is his main customer.
Don’t confuse that with the subsidies, which he has well more than paid back.

Thanks WeWaWes. There are some nice short (under 2 minutes each) YT videos of the static fire test of a few weeks ago.

This is an amazing stack -- the 27 open-cycle liquid-fueled engines -- same oxidizer/fuel combo as von Braun's Saturn V -- pump out the same thrust as the two Solid Rocket Boosters (SRBs) of the Space Shuttle. The SRBs were the muscle that got that contraption off the ground and into the upper atmosphere.

If successful, the Falcon Heavy will be available to throw twice the payload as the Delta IV Heavy -- and watching vids of those launches is also a lot of fun.

Yes, 1:30pm eastern time...as of now. I haven’t looked this morning to see if it’s on schedule.

Wish me luck - I live on the west coast of FL but am driving my aeronautics-loving 13 year old to see the launch. I am only going as far as Orlando, but will park in the top deck of a parking garage at the airport in hopes of being able to see “something.”

everything seemed to go well with the possible exception of the core landing, whose status was left hanging with the broadcast linked to by the (failing) NYT... (???)

the simultaneous side by side landings of the two boosters was well worth watching. it looked like something straight out of a 1950s vintage sci-fi novel.

It’s real, FreeRepublic needs to ban the flat earthers. They are discrediting the entire board.
