The newly announced Colts head coach withdrew from the position hours later Tuesday, ESPN reported, choosing instead to remain with the Patriots as their offensive coordinator.

McDaniels had been formally announced as the Colts’ coach Tuesday morning. The Colts not only confirmed McDaniels’ addition on social media, they announced an introductory press conference to be held at 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft reportedly had a hand in convincing McDaniels to return, offering to increase McDaniels’ salary if he turned down the Colts, according to ESPN.

Apparently he had a note that says, "I resign as HC of the IC"

Chip of the old block:

Remember When: Bill Belichick quit as 'HC of the NYJ' after one day

On another thread:

“I can understand bowing out but bowing out right after you were introduced as the new coach is a dick move. Sounds like something Belichick would do. Oh, wait.”

The colts are a great and proud franchise, winning championships in Baltimore and Indianapolis.
The Irsays? Not so much.
I don’t blame him for bailing.

We had McDaniels as head coach here in Denver Bronco country a few years back ... he was a unmitigated disaster. He went back to the NE Patriots ... under Bilichick with Brady it works for him ... as a stand alone he's a failure.

McDaniels’ second season in Denver ended with a 3–9 record lol.

I was sooo hoping to see McDiapers call a WR reverse pass to Luck like he did to Brady in the Super Bowl.

The Patriot Way
.................

.... were some of the only high profile celebrities to stand up for Donald J Trump! The Patriot Way has a ring for every finger and the United States has maybe it’s best president ever.

A lot of bitterness coming out on this thread. Glad to have Josh back and feel very, very grateful to Bob Kraft, Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and everyone else at the Patriots for an incredible run and I hope it continues for many years to come.

If Matt Patricia knew what was good for him, he'd do the same.

Until the Ford's sell...the Detroit Lions will always be a garbage organization.

The Irsays? Not so much.

Greatest move Elway made was making it clear that he WOULD NOT play for the Colts.

Yes. I was living in Baltimore then. Was there when Irsay moved the team to Indy.
Always glad to see misfortune come to the Irsays.
Good fans in Indy deserve better than those drunks.

I say Amen to you comments.

Some people hate the Patriots, Brady and Belichick. (to the sound of someone whining and crying) ‘they are just a bunch of cheaters’ while the rest of the league is absolutely pure so as to be approaching sainthood.

Patriots can’t win them all but they come really really close.

Something tells me that Patricia got while the getting was good. The "bend but don't break" defense can only hold up for so long before fatigue takes over. A shame that it hit when it did.

Either that or Patricia wanted to go out on a losing note so it will look normal when the Lions don't do so well next year.

Maybe he realized he is better off as a coordinator. Why not stay in NE with Belichick and Brady as opposed going to Indy with a questionable Andrew Luck. Of course he didn't have to go all the way to being announced as the new Indy HC. Or maybe it was all a game he ran to get more money from Robert Kraft.

Why be the head coach of the Colts when you can be the head coach of the Pats? Maybe not this year, but next year. Coach B’s time is about up.

The announcement was scheduled for tomorrow. He had not signed a contract.

He brought the Patriots cheating ways there. They were caught filming other teams’ practices. Patriots apologist will still claim that spy gate was only about where they position cameras inside their stadium during game.
