Admiral warns US must prepare for possibility of war with China

The navy admiral nominated to be the next US ambassador to Australia has told Congress America must prepare for the possibility of war with China, and said it would rely on Australia to help uphold the international rules-based system in the Asia-Pacific.

In an excoriating assessment of China's increasingly muscular posture in the region, Harry Harris said Beijing's "intent is crystal clear" to dominate the South China Sea and that its military might could soon rival American power "across almost every domain".

Harris, soon to retire as the head of US Pacific Command in Hawaii, told the House armed services committee, the US and its allies should be wary of Beijing's military expansionism in the region, and condemned China's foreign influence operations, predatory economic behaviour and coercion of regional neighbours.

"China's intent is crystal clear. We ignore it at our peril," he said. "I'm concerned China will now work to undermine the international rules-based order."

Harris also warned of a "cult of personality" developing around Chinese president Xi Jinping.

I have never read this source before, but I did a search on the information and it appears very likely, this is completely true.

Mods if you find it is not, or is incorrect, nuke away.

But this seems like a very real article.

Can we please, stop importing everything from China, and start rebuilding our own manufacturing base again?

That, is not going to happen.

Manufacturing is not coming back. If it does, it will all be robots and it won’t employ anyone but robot maintenance people.

We make and buy a lot of things from China, and they make a lot of money from us.

A war would be bad for both countries, so I doubt that either would want a war.

Of course, apart from that, decreasing regulations would help us build up our manufacturing base.

But war is not the answer.

“Manufacturing is not coming back.”

Isn’t that what Obama said?

Thank You. You’re absolutely right.

We do not need a single thing China produces, and China can Not maintain it’s Communist Death Grip on its own people without our money.

This nonsense about we can’t Afford to produce hard goods domestically does not figure in our Intelligence, Military Deterrence, and Foreign Aid costs to other friendly Governments within China’s desired sphere of influence/dominance.

So the next time you buy a Cheap Pair of Imported from China Blue Jeans, think about what those jeans cost us in the form of Aircraft Carrier Battle groups we have to keep in the region.

China has been in an economic war with the US since the 1980’s and is winning. Through its mercantilist trade policies and the stupidity or treason of US politicians, it has gutted our manufacturing base.

North Korea is a bankrupt country unable to feed its own people. Yet it is engaged in offensive nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs which cost billions of dollars plus 21st century technical knowledge. This effort would be impossible without substantial assistance from a 1st or 2nd tier economic and technological power. China could stop North Korea in a second. It continues to support this militarization of the Korean peninsula which is targeted at the United States.

China is currently signing bilateral and multilateral trade agreements intended to dethrone the US dollar as the world’s reserve currency.

China is stealing US technology and intellectual property.

China has bribed US politicians since the Clinton administration, if not before.

China is hacking US commercial, government, and military systems.

China is facilitating the illegal immigration to the US by its citizens.

China is rapidly building its military even though it faces no immediate threat. It is developing an offensive capability.

The US is not fighting back. China is winning.

War is not the answer.

But China threatening us with nuclear missiles through their proxy in North Korea was from Bejing after they considered the economic blow the Trump Tax Cuts could deal them.

I (COMPLETELY) agree.

Good post. There are far too many, who are either just stuck on stupid, or else sold out, in America.

Now we have created a real problem, for the future. It is time to change.

Now.

China posing more restrictions daily on passage through the South China Sea, with airbases already constructed on islands therein against legitimate claims to other countries sovereignty. They mean to stay and to increase that presence.

What are we prepared to do?

“China is stealing US technology and intellectual property. China is rapidly building its military …”

Since 1990s, by outsourcing in/of various manufacturing fields, USA & Europe transferred multiple technologies, equipment, knowhow, etc, etc to China - the list is endless…
Think of the lost manufacturing/production/design/development capabilities in electronics/microelectronics – which is the key ingredient in modern weaponry/warfare.
Think of the lost skills in our pool of technicians & engineers (re: electronic components/ICs/modules/etc manufacturing/etc). Where are they?! To train them takes long time. Who will train them?! To rebuild highly sophisticated production equipment for electronic manufacturing takes long time. Who will build it?!

China’s intentions in the South China Sea have been obvious for years, ever since they began to assert sovereignty over little atolls and building them up to support airstrips. One would assume that the Pentagon has been wargaming the region ever since, if not decades before. This is not news, just a release to verify our policy position in case someone missed the boat years ago.

If you think the status quo of them(China) currently charging upwards of 30% import tariffs on our exports to them and us not charging them any duty whats so ever is right and a good thing then you are not only anti American but and out and out traitor.
