Its almost like they’re needing to fill an empty hole in their life. It would help if they had something in which to believe in that gave them hope. So even when the feel totally alone in the world they still felt love and not so lonely. If they had a place they could go and talk to people that would be concerned with their well being.
I just can’t put my finger on it!

similar issue with homeless. The development of psychotropic drugs allowed some serious patients to survive on the street. Schizophrenics for example. All they had to do is take their meds.

So we closed a lot of mental health beds.

We learned in corrections with parolees not everyone takes their meds. They didn’t take their med and they committed more crimes.

With homeless we see people who cannot survive on the street and there are not enough social workers to make sure they are medicated.

So we need to enforce laws like you can’t live or crap on the street and put the able bodied in jail or to work and the mentally ill in supervised facilities.

I’ll second.

Imagine the chaos with 90% of the population withdrawing from their various mind bogglers.

We’d need to carry, or board up the windows.

Let me add, because I just KNOW somebody looking for an argument is going to say I am pushing locking up people before they do anything. NO, that is NOT what I said. I said if someone is DANGEROUS CRAZY, like this last psycho school shooter, and there is LOTS of evidence I understand to support that, then they should have been committed.

There was chance after chance for someone to have this person evaluated involuntarily. The school, his psychologist, care takers, etc. reports to the FBI, etc. could have certainly been reason enough to do this. Lots of dropped balls. Dangerous Crazy is written all over this person.

I can. I can put my finger right on it.

They are missing love. I do not mean romantic love. That is different, more fleeting, and harder to find. I mean real love.

Do you love someone in this world so much that despite the fact that you might be very angry with someone, and you want to go f*** their s*** up real good, you choose not to, because you know you will never see that someone you love again? That kind of love.

The kind of love that keeps you sane, and keeps you from doing the insane.

The kind of love that keeps the beast in the cage, if you know what I mean.

That’s what they are missing.

The most precious treasure in this world. Love.

... But she has no ability to say that anyone looks insane. She’s got the craziest looks of anyone.

The facilities is far more humane than being long term homeless and unable to cope with life.
They would have food, health care, bed and bathroom facilities. Heck, they would have a community and recreations too. It would be darn Mardi-Gras when compared to dealing with the elements, no bathroom and starving.

Only someone ignorant of the use of psychoactive drugs and treatments would post such an ignorant thread.

Most mentally ill are canaries in the culture. Their emotional boundaries are more permeable than the average person and they take in more and more of the culture and react to it as they are told to do by the media.

I call them the Cultural Canaries.

The leftist media has been advocating violence for a long time through video and presentation.

As for medications being the cause of the violence, well, of course most of the people who commit mass murder have been or are on or just came off of psychiatric drugs.

For most of them have been unstable for a long period of time and have been treated, for their mental instability. Mental illness and the kind of instability that causes mass murders of this nature just doesn’t pop up. These are people who have been mentally deteriorating for a long time. And they have been treated with the appropriate medications to manage their symptoms.

Whether they complied with follow up treatment, or took their medications, or not, is about judgment, which is something most mentally ill people do not have. As a matter of fact, lack of judgment is a symptom in most mental illnesses.

So to start talking about how these people were on different antidepressants, benzos, mood stabilizers, and antipsychotics and point fingers at the medications, is ridiculous.

It is the mental illness, not the medication or the gun that is at issue.

You would be better served to criticize a broken mental health system which is so hampered by HIPPA and Patient Rights that it is unable to prevent all but the most IMMEDIATE dangerous patients (and they have to prove it to the courts) from leaving the building.

You are all right, we did not have this sort of thing years ago and a good portion of what is going on is thus: people do what they are told, think what they are told, and the mentally ill have less filters from the common culture than others. They reflect the culture.

Therefore the violence our culture censored years ago, that many people either avoid or can filter, goes straight to the minds of the mentally ill and influences them greatly.

Censorship in the past was not there to keep you in the dark but instead was in place to protect the weak, including the weak-minded....and thus...the society as a whole.

We have eliminated hospital beds from our healthcare system in general and have closed down long term facilities for the mentally ill and developmentally retarded. We have shut down facilities that used to school and board troubled and mentally ill children and adolescents, and have opened programs that handle much less, and that require a much higher bar to enter, than before.

We have given adolescents patient rights, and have moved parents and guardians to the sidelines in decision-making for their care. I have seen frustrated and end of rope patents kill their mentally ill children and then suicide because the options of homes and locked facilities are not longer present.

No this is not an issue of pharma or guns, this is an issue of what we have become as a culture.

We had individuals in the old system who were abused in the large institutions. I submit that between homelessness, lack of treatment, people who predate on the mentally ill and retarded, and the damages and injuries caused by the mentally ill and mentally retarded, there is far more abuse and crime today that there ever was in post-war institutions in the US.

The large institutions of old, were places developed in compassion. In older times, families locked their mentally ill in attics, or starved and killed them. Towns fathers would quietly capture and kill dangerous mentally ill. We chose to give them a home and three hots and a cot. That is gone. We refuse to take care of these people and we are letting them die, and we are letting them kill. I suspect the larger issue is to control the culture, and remove guns.

Don’t blame pharma, blame your local leftist lawyer and politician for eliminating effective mental health care.

silly, that is a NATURAL treatment. I did hear that it could make you go crazy. Or was that could make you go blind? No, wait, that is doing it alone (ack).

But seriously, some of those things are to meant to make people complicit and easily guided (and to be happy doing it too). While we have tons of science research on the brain and drugs. Like all science we are still learning new things all the time. we already have lots of disclaimers on the drugs of what we do know that isn’t healthy about them. And there are lots of reasons to not scramble the moods long term with mind alerting drugs.

Several years ago I was on the staff of a drug, alcohol, and psychiatric inpatient facility on the juvenile side. Of the many things I learned there, the medication of everyone that stepped foot in there and their effects was not something I found as a good thing.

It sounds just like those nuts who won’t take their kids to the hospital when they are sick. Then they are surprised when they die.
