Here comes the snow! Maybe!

Don’t be surprised if the mountains all around us look a little whiter tomorrow morning.

A winter storm moving across the state brought some rain to valley areas and the chance of snow as low as 3,500 feet overnight Tuesday.

There is a chance of 1 to 2 inches of snow in Sierra Vista and 3 or 4 inches for Bisbee.

Carl Cerniglia, with the National Weather Service in Tucson, said the bulk of the precipitation would fall between 8 p.m. Tuesday night and 7 or 8 a.m. Wednesday morning. There’s only a chance of scattered storms past the early morning hours, he said.

Because the front moving in from the west is colder than the past few storms, that means it has a higher chance of snow, and a snow level that is the lowest so far this year. The last storm had a snow level that was 1,000 feet higher, Cerniglia said.

But while there is a chance of snow at lower elevations, a winter weather advisory is in place until 11 a.m. Wednesday morning for areas above 4,500 feet. And snow is possible not just on Mt. Lemmon or in the Santa Ritas.

For Green Valley, Sahuarita, Tucson and other low-lying areas, the storm should bring a “decent wetting rain,” or about a tenth to a third of an inch of rain, Cerniglia said.

The storm is centered to move west across the middle of the state, but should bring rain to Nogales and Douglas, and small snow storms to Flagstaff, he said.

“Almost all the state is going to get something out of it,” Cerniglia said.

The cold weather system bringing the storm will also bring lower temperatures in its wake. Tonight temperatures should get down to or below freezing, so people should take precautions with delicate plants, he said.

There had been some dissension here in the Northeast as to whether we are getting a noreaster. The storm that is going to produce it was over CA and AZ yesterday. We are having 60 degree day as far North as Maine with 35 degree nights which is good for maple syrup sap. Morning today Boston weather say storm is coming Friday into Saturday.

This approaching storm seems to have been extremely hard to predict. The forecast for New England has been very “maybe this / maybe that”. I think the latest I’ve heard is that it’s not such a big deal after all. A couple inches, maybe?

I am fine with the concept that Earth’s atmosphere is big and complex and that predicting weather is really difficult.

I am not fine with the concept that 100 years from now the global temperature will be 2.85 degrees higher and the seas will have risen 9.25 feet.

They know nothing.

I used to live in the flat top houses up at the opening of Huachuca Canyon. Always loved it when it snowed up there!

Arizona and all snow must melt off the roads and sidewalk by 9 am.

I think that’s in the state constitution.
