Watch the video. 2:55

Judging only from the video I do not see how the bail agent got away with it.

She shot Williams in the back.

I'd be in trouble for that.

Wasn’t this the plot of a Tarantino movie?

One less piece of flotsam in the human gene pool. Good on the jury.

This has been kicked around on FR a couple of times as well on a couple of gun boards I frequent. This is also somewhat local to me so people talk about such things on local Facebook boards. The most frequent theory is that the DA was friendly to the bail agent since she ensures her clients show up for court. Therefore, he “overcharged” with the 1st degree murder charge where the jury couldn’t back up to a 2d degree or manslaughter alternative. He knew the case couldn’t meet 1st degree and the jury would return the not guilty verdict because they couldn’t check all the blocks.

It didn't look like self defense, but, as usual, it was a story missing the elephant in the room.

In this case, for what crime was Brandon Williams in the office of a bail bondsman?

What was Williams history?

I wasn't at the trial, but suspect the defense attorney convinced the jury that Williams was a waste of air.

If the video was all the jurors ever saw of heard, that would be telling. My guess is the jurors heard more.

From another article:

Before closing arguments in the trial, prosecutors asked the judge to give jurors the option of finding Carey guilty of first-degree manslaughter. The judge denied the request so jurors were told to determine guilt only for the charge of first-degree murder.

...

She got away with it because she was overcharged.

Its just murder. Obviously second degree or manslaughter depending on where she shot him. In the head would be murder. Somewhere else may be manslaughter. First degree would be hard. That’s planning the murder. Certainly the video does not show it. But all those people who respond to the quality of the victim rather than his right to live or at least her lack of rights to end his life, are ethically challenged.

Glad that she help clear some scum.

As far as the camera goes, I would have at least flushed the SD Card down the drain, if not disposed of the entire camera. Hard to see how the video helped her.

.
She “got away with it” for the same reason that the police get away with it.

Constitutionally, there is zero difference between a private citizen and a cop.

The right to aprehend a criminal is a right solely of a citizen. There is no constitutional power of arrest outside that of every citizen.

The only constitutional arrest is the citizen’s arrest.

There is no struggle for the gun in the video. He left the frame, she gets the gun out of her desk drawer and shoots him in the back. Where is the evidence that he was trying to get her gun?

Best to stay out of some areas, until they’re cleaned up (which can take a very long time). There are other areas somewhat near there that have been mobbed up, too, although some improvement has been seen.

1st degree manslaughter.

They over charged her on purpose.
