I did basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas in June of 1978.

If the temperature reached a certain level, the red flag was hoisted and we were kept indoors.....I kept expecting my drill instructor to serve us a nice cool beverage or some ice cream.

I went to OSUT (Basic and AIT), 11B Infantry at glorious Ft. Benning Ga. in 1988. In between Basic and AIT (Advanced Infantry Training), we had free time. Parents and Family would visit Columbus and see their sons. An added benefit was that our instructors opened up the NCO club and allowed some Strippers from Victory Drive to do so some freelance. Basically those with no visiting family or Heathens/typical Grunts (LOL) became extremely intoxicated and spent our meager pay on these "dancers".

When I went to Airborne School some of the female ABN candidates would really jump in more ways than one. I suspect Ft. Benning is not the same or is the just the same. I have not been back. This is all for fun but I will add that many from my OSUT who went Ranger and other Army Combat Fields are eternalized by giving all from Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq and all in between.
