Red October, iron eagle etc... Everyone keeps going to movies. What if these are things from history
Red October, start of the Russian revolution
Iron eagle, the eagle was the symbol of the Romanov dynasty which was overthrown in the red October revolution. Iron was often associated with the Romanov.
The great game, a nickname given to the struggle in the 19th century between imperial Russia and imperial British for mastery of the Asian landmass.
The great Awakening, also used as an alternative same for the enlightenment in the 18th century

I am just throwing this out there make of it what you will.

Gone to the movies likey because "Hunt for Red October," and "Godfather III" don;t have any other type association.

You have a good point, could be alternative or dual meanings - historical references. And I suggested they may be code names for missions.
