I was born and raised in Ohio and have lived in Michigan almost 30 years and we played Euchre and Pinochle and even double Pinochle in Ohio and then in Michigan as well.
I have always wanted to learn Bridge.
Years ago I played Pinochle on yahoo games. Then they changed it to having to pay to play.
Love double deck Pinochle!!!! Hard to find folks to play it.
I played it with my parents as a kid. Probably haven’t played in 50 years. Nowadays it’s poker.
My wife and her family all played Euchre and I knew about it but had never played. I had to learn fast if I was to be accepted by the family. :)
Later on I got to play Euchre with my Uncle who grew up in Ohio. It really brought a smile to his face when we played. He hadn’t played for decades since he was in college with friends and I think it brought back a lot of memories.
It’s too bad card and board games seem to take a back seat these days to video games. Some of the best memories I have of being around family is when we were playing some kind of game around the kitchen table.
If it was a Parcheesi type of game, croquet, or bean bag toss, we’d all put in a buck to play to make it interesting. We would always remember to bring lots of dollars when we went to family reunions.
It looks like I may be the most serious Bridge player here. I played party Bridge since I was 18. In 1999 I was introduced to duplicate and tournaments and there was no going back.
I now live in a town with a large duplicate club, sometimes 70 tables in a session. I play 3-5 times a week. My favorite is tournaments. Have made many friends playing Bridge all over the US.
You’re right, mostly retirees but if you go to tournaments you will see a fair amount of young people, especially Asian.
Bill Gates is a Bridge player and often plays at tournaments with Warren Buffett. Bill Gates started a youth Bridge program to get school children around the world interested in and competing at Bridge. They say it is very good for elementary children because it helps with math.
