He should have taken it to small claims court but maybe he has had to do this too many times over the years so he snapped.
The house across the street from me had its roof repo-ed.................
It may be that he was tired of people getting away with it in court.
This reminds me of large companies that will spend $100,000 to fight frivolous $25,000 lawsuits to keep people from doing it. Repossessing the roof definitely sends a message to future clients. :)
Pay cash.
50% down.
30% on first inspection.
Final payment on final inspection.
Make sure the permits are pulled and a performance bond is posted with your name on it.
Most roofers will offer at least a 10% discount if paid ingreen foldie stuff.

West Monroe...ha ha, wonder if the roofer is related to the duck boys. It sounds like something Uncle Si would do lol.
I don’t see an issue with what he did.
He should have Googled it:

The procedure is relatively straightforward.
Small claims..?? A new roof cost a bundle... He should have had her busted for grand theft....
Around here when a roof is removed (assuming typical asphalt), it takes a couple of hours with the push-scraper tools, and the asphalt landing in the dumpster, if not the lawn and foundation plants.
I would think to remove a roof with any chance of reusability would take many painstaking days. And, even then, you'd wind up with nailhole leakpoints in every shingle.
It’s Louisiana, so things work differently under the Napoleonic code.
She will probably be forced into paying him.
He will probably be forced into replacing the roof. He will lose twice.
1. The cost of his time repoing the roof.
2. The cost of his time replacing it.
He’s an idiot. I would not do business with him.
roofers usually try to stay out of court. He probably put a lien on the house because the Homeowner disputed his charges. There are many former ‘roofers’ that are in jail because they have defrauded people. I am not saying this is what happened, but there are always two sides to every story. Many times the roofers are paid by the Insurance company and then try to get additional funds from the homeowner. In many cases, it is a license to steal. I am probably out of line because I do not know the facts of this story, but my radar goes up in how the story was presented.
I agree small claims would have kept him out of jail. It does not get your money back though. All it gives you is a lien
Got to admit its a clever way to deal with services rendered
The law is an @$$.
