But without pain.

All correct. Walk only on level pavement with the best padded shoes you can afford. You are exactly right about sideways movement being very harmful to weak knees.

Good news is, regular walking at a good pace for 2-3 months can strengthen every thing around the knee and the pain of bone on bone diminishes.

Bone on bone diagnosis was 14 months ago. My knees still click when I twist them, but there has been zero pain for last 8-9 months. Regular walking (30 minutes 4-5 times a week) is what I am doing. Only medication worth mentioning is baby aspirin (80 mg) on alternate days. But I take it to prevent heart attack, not for knee particularly. There is history of heart attacks on both my parents side. I will
celebrate my 78th birthday this month, never had heart attacks, strokes or arthritis..yet..knock on wood. Totally pain free for several months.

As for knee surgery, if pain comes back and is chronic, only then I will opt for knee replacement. Keeping weight down and exercise is what I prefer.

I have read that adult stem cell treatment isn’t really complicated, nor hard for them to do. It could probably be not real expensive, if not for the fact that they want to soak infirmed and sometimes desperate people for as much as they can take them for.

It would be so nice if we had a medical system that wasn’t so often out to extract everything that they possibly can from us, leaving many without the care they could use.

78 and heart attack history probably not a good candidate for the operation. I had my op at 64 and actually waited too long and ended up with nerve damage. 71 now and doing well except for bouts of numbness.

Good luck & God Bless You

My Father had a left knee that was giving him a lot of trouble. Cartilage problems, mostly from old age. He had had the shot that the orthopedic doctor gave him that was a temporary fix and it lasted a long time.

But at age 91 the knee was just worn out. He saw an ad about stem cell therapy and decided to try it. They took some blood and them did something and gave him a shot in that knee. It cost him about $1000 bucks. He did not understand that it takes time for that treatment to work.

Well about four months after having that treatment and some home rehab exercises his knee recovered and he was able, with a walker, to get around pretty good and no longer had any pain.

So yes it can work but it takes time for it to do so.

Now you can take the supplement MSM and that will help grow new collagen in your knees and joint and it does work. It also is a big help if you have Rheumatoid Arthritis.

That is what my Father had and it worked for him on his knee.

There was an orthopedist in Florida years back who used Growth Hormone injections into the joint capsule to spur cartilage growth.

Alan Dunn, IIRC, and he called it Intra-articular Growth Hormone Therapy, or IAGH. Had a website, if you are interested.

My cousin had both knees replaced in his mid-70’s. One knee replacement worked very good, other not so good. Although I am in exceptionally good shape for my age, I agree with you, it is best to avoid serious optional surgery in late 70’s..

Just remembered a real good joint supplement you could try. Celadrin.
