"Pacino made that movie a classic."

Without question the finest acting performance I have ever seen.

Not me, either.

“He’s not a great actor. He is an asshole through and through and he plays one on TV. He’s only good at being an asshole. A great actor is versatile. DeNiro is a one trick pony. He just plays himself. That’s not acting”.

WINNER!

You nailed it perfectly.

I agree. Mitchum was more intimidating and scary while APPEARING to do very little — the sign of a really good actor.

I thought Cybill did well in “Taxi Driver.”

He’s really and truly NOT much of an actor and an even worse person.

We are on the same page! :-)

Have you ever seen Mitchum in NIGHT OF THE HUNTER? If not, you should give a look, the next time it plays on TMC.

Yes, many times :) Mitchum was a very powerful actor and yet always self-deprecating in interviews, as if it were nothing. Qualities characteristic of his generation that I greatly miss now.

Oh good! :-)

I've seen that movie quite a few times, starting when I was kid. And yes, Mitchum was a very accomplished actor.

Once upon a time, movies were worth seeing, actors and actresses could act, but that's no longer the case. Even the younger Brit actors and actress mumble now and more and more of them are as bad as their American counterparts; sadly.
