He is. But damnit, that doesn’t take away from his work. Anybody will agree that he is one of the greatest actors in cinema history. But he’s pissing it away though.

Is he a great actor or someone who gamed the play.

I don’t.

I don’t think De Niro’s a “good” actor at all. All he ever plays is the same asshole in every movie. It’s not acting, it’s who and what he is.

At least it’s who he THINKS he is. A real tough guy. A regular “wise guy”. But I’ll bet he’s a total coward in real life though.

He’s not a great actor. He is an asshole through and through and he plays one on TV. He’s only good at being an asshole. A great actor is versatile. DeNiro is a one trick pony. He just plays himself. That’s not acting.

No he isn't and obviously, put up against the likes of Lawrence Olivier, Orson Welles, Errol Flynn, Jimmy Cagney, Peter Lorre, Leslie Howard, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Lionel and John Barrymore, Paul Lucas, Joseph Schildkraut, Charles Laughton, the Fox brothers and their kids, Kenneth Branagh, and at least a thousand others, De Niro falls extremely far from being "one of the greatest actors in cinema history." !

As a matter of fact, De Niro is so far from the top, very few people would or should agree with you. He is not only NOT a versatile actor, his star turn in the wretched remake of "CAPE FEAR" was sans any "ability", acting or otherwise, completely and unrealistic in the extreme!

Oh sure, he has won awards, but then, so have many others who also couldn't act their way out of a wet paper bag/for less than no true reason !

Except for all the others. I think he must have done his own stunts in "Raging Bull".

He has been in some movies that I love, like Godfather 2 and Goodfellows. But he’s a POS.

I can think of two he was excellent in: The Mission and King of Comedy. I’m sure there are others. I never liked his obnoxious, hateful roles and I don’t like his hate Trump routine.

25 or 30 years ago he had the stuff.

Dirty Grandpa?
Meet the Fockers?
Machete?

Not the work you want to end your career with.
