Stalin arranged things so as to have the Germans and the West exhaust each other, so that the Red Army could sweep across Europe with little opposition...except that the Germans were faster on the draw and absolutely pulverized the Soviet units that were crowded into offensively-oriented positions very close to the border with the Third Reich.

Yes. For all of the misery that it caused, and though it put Nazi armies on the British Channel, it kept the Red Army from making it to the Channel. We would STILL be dealing with that...as Stalin would have gotten hold of many of the German nuclear scientists, and von Braun’s rocketeers.
