I've been hearing of the skull towers since I was a kid and the size keeps getting bigger. We really don't know much about Tenochtitlan or the previous occupants. Only a small part of it has been excavated.

Not just horrific — a very efficient way to gather demons to what we were to know later as Latin America.
And so many are giving Donald Trump a hard time for wanting to screen whoever comes in from there.

I thought that was a very under rated movie. It was very well done and just a good flick.
Mel was on the outs with the hollyweird crowd so I think that is why it was shunned.

Invoking a curmudgeonly thread police persona: "Didn't you search, I posted this like two minutes before you!"
Seriously though, for centuries people read the accounts of the Spanish priests who accompanied Cortes and discounted it as impossible propaganda. The sheer number and pace of murders described defied all experience. But science has gone on to corroborate pretty much every aspect of those accounts. Imagine being a witness to it, tens of thousands killed in a day by ripping their still-beating hearts out and they cutting their heads off, stripping off the skin and mounting them to a wall with tens of thousands of skulls on it.
It wasn't just gold lust that made them want this empire eradicated.

The depth of the evil would have made compromise easy. There was a reason that in one of the first conquests by the Hebrews they were told to keep none of the gold or spoils.

What amazes me, amongst thousands of things, is the ignominiouses who think that Cortes just waltzed it and took over with a very small number of men. The surrounding folks hated the Aztecs and were more than willing to join an army, created by Cortes, to topple the Aztecs.
These are the same ignorant souls who believe a bunch of white guys just landed in Africa and started kidnapping people to sell into slavery.
BTW, my posts is better. (;>)

Cortes’ technology would have been better, so that might make sense and explain why the Aztecs hadn’t yet been wiped out.

I had to laugh when the leader of the raiding party returned with his captives and, being early hit by the felling of a huge tree, delivers the Ratso Rizzl line “I’m walking here!!” Freaking hilarious.

"The surrounding folks hated the Aztecs and were more than willing to join an army, created by Cortes, to topple the Aztecs." For some reason, the Tlaxcalans were not fans of the Aztecs.
