Trump should go for the most conservative judge he can cause the RATS will, oppose whoever he names. Except Murkowski and Collins won't oppose everyone he names, but they would Barrett.
In your scenario, Trump picks Barrett, Murkowski and Collins sink her, there's no time for another nominee before the midterms, Democrats win a Senate majority, we end up with Justice Merrick Garland. No thank you.

I think you may have had it the other way round. What was the number one reason why conservatives voted for Donald Trump in 2016? Justice Scalias replacement in The SCOTUS. In fact one of the main reasons why Trump won was because Republicans were sure hed nominate a conservative to replace Scalia.
Lets say Trump nominates Barret, that puts pressure on the US Democratic Senators from North Dakota, West Virginia, Missouri, Indiana etc, all up for re-election in November, in states that Trump won by double digits. If these Senators vote against Barret, they lose in November and Trump gets Barret through anyway in January. I think Trump is in a very good position because the SCITUS vote will be just a few weeks before the November elections.
