After living there awhile one figured stuff out. A friend of a friend knew a great Italian restaurant. So we drive, end up going through a huge warehouse district east of NYC and then this huge white restaurant just appears among all of the warehouses. Had huge white columns going up a couple of stories all around it supporting the eaves.
It was lunch time, and the parking lot was empty except for three or four limos on the back corner.
The huge place was empty, and they seat us in our own separate room. We had a five course meal for lunch - paid for by the friend!
I didn't say anything to anybody, but I had a slight suspicion that it might somehow be tied to the mob. Just perhaps!
So did you order the veal? I think I’d have gone with gnocci.
Here in Maryland, when I was working in a 7-11 store, a guy who was obviously a Mafia member came in. I figured he was not going to mess with a young store clerk, and treated him just like any other customer.
The moment he left, a regular customer came in, all breathless and excited. “Oh my gosh,” he said. “Did you see that guy? Weren’t you scared?”
No, I was not scared. The Mafia does big crime. They aren’t going to get themselves arrested for shoplifting or robbing $20 from a 7-11.
