I can't stand what our "justice" system has become, which gives the perpetrator every conceivable benefit of the doubt, and puts the absolute burden of proof of acting in self defense crushingly on the victims. A recent incident (which many here on FR criticize my stance on) in Oklahoma is an example. A pharmacist shot an armed robbery duo, but he's been convicted of murder and given a
LIFE SENTENCE because he "overdid" his self-defense. Appalling.
You essentially sign your own death warrant when you rob a victim using violence, in my book.

Exactly right.
The victim did not make a plan and seek out others to cause harm.
The perps did.
I’m sorry, but whatever happens to them, it’s their problem.
Here’s one other aspect. The judge was quick to extrapolate wrong doing on the pharmacist. At the same time, he didn’t extrapolate any possibility of these two coming back to get even if they lived.
If I start firing, someone is going to be dead by the end of it, unless the perp runs quickly enough.

The pharmacist was stupid. He properly went down for the killing the unarmed robber. It should have been manslaughter because he did it in the heat of passion, rather than murder.
The 15 years that two members of the parole board voted for sounds about right. But he should have gone for a plea deal instead of gambling on a trial. (Stupid a second time).
