Amazon can deliver your package to your door;

Musk can deliver your package to the moon.

Great, all 0 people living on the moon can pay for that delivery, while AMZN can sell to the 7b people actually living on planet earth.

How much did you lose shorting Amazon?

0. I never short stocks and very rarely buy put options, usually only if I own a large stake in a single company to protect gains, which isn’t very often. The math is overwhelmingly in favor of passive investing in low cost index funds vs active investing.

What did Bezos invent?

BTW - this was amazon 5-6 years after 20+ years ago.

During late 2002, rapid spending from Amazon caused it financial distress after revenues stagnated. Bezos borrowed $2 billion from select banks with only $350 million in holdings. After the company nearly went bankrupt, he closed distribution centers and laid off 14% of the Amazon workforce.

Again, it is possible TSLA does everything you hope and succeeds phenominally - but there is a very real chance they barely ever reach profitability or they go bankrupt.

modern day retailing, kindle, AWS, Blue Origin, etc. TSLA didn’t invent anything really - the electric car concept and solar panels existed well before Musk came along.

BEZOS didn’t invent Kindle.

And I never said Musk was an inventor.

Musk is a great self-promoter. That's his primary skill.

Look you got a hard on for TSLA - and I hope it actually works out for you, but you are also ignoring a lot of real risk.

And if you don't think Bezos wasn't behind the kindle and its platform, you have lost your gourd.

Regarding growth and other market opportunities: Musk has already started down the road of expanding what his group of companies are involved in. Cars are NOT the end all be all of Tesla. He is already building and selling batteries. His Tesla workforce contributes to SpaceX (share software dev) and I fully expect close integration down the road. He is expanding into marketing efforts via his various “gimmick” items (flamethrowers for example). He plans to make Tesla a brand name for countless innovative tech products. I know this personally. I would never bet against Elon.

“And if you don’t think Bezos wasn’t behind the kindle and its platform, you have lost your gourd.”

It was developed by one of sub labs but certainly not invented by him!

Besides it was just the implementation of a concept already in place by others.

LOL. I bought 100 shares years ago after seeing a showroom in San Antonio.

The real risk-takers are those shorting tesla.

The company? Well given it wouldn’t have ever existed without gov subsidies maybe a bit. Current valuation- absolutely.

Tesla didn’t invent the government subsidies! You should spend your time on your real beef instead of wasting it on your slanted view of Tesla.

Yep. After the Dot-Com bust. It was also another great entry point to buy AMZN. The same thing could happen to TSLA with a big recession, a big earthquake, or an expensive recall. In a selfish way I kind of wish it would. BTW, TSLA and SpaceX were both within days of bankruptcy back in 2008 I believe and they’ve both done well since then. The bond downgrade last April wasn’t looking too good either, but Musk responded well, though not without controversy. It was a stressful time, no doubt.

My views are hardly slanted (I admit there are ways that could happen to justify the current value, but a lot of other ways that make it a 0 or worth far less - you discount the last two entirely, I put those two at better than 50% odds in 5 years) and while a lot of companies do benefit from subsidies, very few only were started because of subsidies.
