Putin is on record as having said that the greatest geo-political tragedy of the 20th Century was the dissolution of the Soviet Union. So WHAT, exactly, is he trying to restore?

FWIW, I don’t believe that Putin believes in Communism - he’s way too smart for that, and understands as well as anyone on the planet what a miserable failure it was in many regards. But that is largely irrelevant - he wants Russia to be a dominant power on Earth, if not THE dominant power, and whether you (or he) calls himself a Communist, a Czarist, or anything else, the end result if he is not reigned in will be the exact same thing - and we will assuredly NOT like it.
