A volunteer for Special Olympics Oregon in Cottage Grove is demanding answers from the nonprofits CEO after $50,000 specifically meant for the Cottage Grove events appears to have gone missing.

I say "mismanagement" because the money was there in 2016 and an audit of 2017 that should be revelatory is not yet complete. At best, somebody goofed in Accounting and put the money in another account. At worst, it got laundered out of the organization into a personal account by a former, or soon-to-be-former, insider who will now be socially radioactive forever.
The money was misappropriated for Black Lives Matter or some such.
It is a symptom of our times that I respond to your tongue-in-cheek remark with a simple, “I wouldn’t put that beyond the realm of possibility.”
My DIL and a group of moms raised a lot of money to stock the school library and it was misappropriated to a Brotherhood of black 5 th graders group
How did the criminal trial go?
I had no idea where Cottage Grove is, so I checked...Oregon...packed with liberal filth...find the loudest liberal in the area...that person is part of the theft.
So they found $14,000 in an account that was never set up?
$50k in 2012
$14k in 2018
That’s $15k a year, probably moved to perfectly legitimate expense accounts.
That’s what happens to money — it gets spent, and this kind of freakout is what makes good people stay away from charities.
5th grade?????!!!!!!!
Actually Cottage Grove is packed with rednecks and there’s lots of Meth use there. There are liberals there, spilled out from Eugene, but overall it’s rural and relatively poor.
I’d suspect theft.
“Financial records show that as of January 2017 there were more than $50,000 in the account.”
CommieCore English.
criminal trial?
the black principal can do no wrong
Given the complete body of evidence, your local District Attorney may well think otherwise.
Financial records show that as of January 2017 there were more than $50,000 in the account.
If you know specifics, then share them.
I know how non profit institutions work. A fund, which is really just a number, unless there is some sort of contract in place, can be appropriately disbursed in flexible ways. If a fund that was intended to be used regularly, was not used for a few years, for whatever reason, then the financial people can choose to make up for the neglect and use the fund for it’s intended purpose at a greater rate. It is normal. If there was a contract, where is it? What does it say? Do you know?
What really sucks is when people, who do not know what is happening, make wild and harmful accusations. I would never work with a charity that is associated with an entitled community of busybodies, because these busybodies hurt good people.
In this respect, I have “gone Galt”.
Did you say you benefit from this organization? What do you contribute to it? Surely you must contribute something!
I’m reading the article; that was a direct quote. Also, the money was put into an endowment fund; the principle ought to still be there.
Quoting:
“Special Olympics Oregon told KEZI 9 News that roughly $14,000 from the account has been found, but that’s far less than the $50,000 documents show was in the account at the end of 2016.”
