No. I live in a place where the last joint I knew with a dress code went out of biz many moons ago.

Penguins gear is very popular. Bucs, not so much.

You must be kidding. Off-duty cops can be just as bad as the thugs the owner is trying to keep away.

Yep! Especially after 10 pm. This is the watering hole district of Pittsburgh. Most of the troublemakers come in after 10 pm.

this list appears to target a certain demographic of people.

I thought we weren't suppose to stereotype.

I wouldn’t want the thug element in my establishment either. Dong care about race, but have a business to run and a disruptive lower end clientele isn’t what I would want either

The south side has gotten more violent and dangerous in the last few years

Bars routinely discretely push away the thug element, usually by ending carrying certain liquors and drinks that are popular among that set.

Al, we have a family member in LE. We had a family member killed accidentally by a member of LE. I don’t judge all members of LE by the latter.

We had a place here that insisted everyone wear socks. One night I was with a very wealthy male friend who had on a pair of Van like shoes, no socks. Middle of summer. They made us leave. lol

I used to work with guys who would drop six to eight hundred bucks every couple of years on a pair of work boots. Some would go straight out end of day Friday to hit the bar without bothering to change. I personally couldn't wait to take off those heavy, clunky, ugly steel-toed boots, but then again I never spent more than a couple hundred bucks on a pair.

Either way, no matter which way you slice it they're still work boots. I don't often see shirts and ties and Calvin Klein shoes (what I am now) pulled up to the bar next to sunburnt necks, carpenter pants and work boots (what I used to be). If this guy wants to cater to the former crowd at the expense of the latter, so be it. I guess the stuffed shirts go for more expensive stuff but can't beat the blue collar guys in sheer volume of cheap piss. Even though many tradesmen could buy the lunch of salarymen, old habits die hard.

Like I said, the capitalist in me cringes whenever a biz turns away paying customers. It may need them later.

"The capitalist in me cringes when a biz writes off law-abiding, paying customers."

It's done all the time by setting prices, in restaurants and retail stores. When you pay more you expect a certain level of environment, including fellow customers.

That's why this is funny:

Blues Brothers...

So do I. And he’d be the first one to advise anyone not to assume you want off-duty cops in your establishment.

The business is turning away customers in Group B because they don’t want to lose the customers in Group A.

"...This is a matter of respect,” said Khamil Scantling..."

A FReeper a few days ago pointed out that it's always about respect with these people.

However, it only goes one way: They demand it yet give as little as possible to others, maybe because in their culture to give deference or respect is a sign of weakness.

Like tipping, they are also niggardly with giving respect.

As an aside, Khalil has an interesting last name. A scantling is defined as "dimensions for parts of a structure, especially in shipbuilding." I wonder if his emancipated male line ancestor worked as a shipbuilder.

"...Al Capone was a dapper dresser..."

The sign should say "No Spats"!

Yeah, no kidding. Half of Loxley Alabama wouldn’t be allowed in there.

So is that in effect all day or just after 10PM per the posted sign?

I can understandaggy pants hanging off your ass, but otherwise I think its a bit much for a BBQ joint.

Respect is earned. Not given.

I wonder if the sign read “NO WHITES AFTER 10:00 PM” if anyone would have noticed?
