If you're browsing Netflix for a new show to watch, don't bother looking for reviews on the platform to see if a title is worth your time. The streaming service is done purging user reviews -- a decade's worth of comments praising and excoriating shows, all gone. Under the question "How do I post reviews on Netflix?," the service's Help Center now says: "Netflix customers were able to leave reviews on Netflix.com until mid-2018, when reviews were removed due to declining use. To learn how Netflix suggests TV shows and movies we think you'll love, visit our Ratings & Recommendations article."
It won't come as a surprise if you previously heard about the company's decision to remove written reviews by mid-August. And frankly, it won't be something you'll miss if you mainly access the platform through its mobile app. Reviews were only visible on the web anyway, and that most likely contributed to its "declining use."
Netflix probably had reasons other than the section's decline in use, as well. For instance, it had to deal with issues like "review bombing" by trolls hoping to bring down a show's rating back when it used stars instead of the thumbs up-down system. Netflix might have decided that reviews don't lead to enough views to warrant spending resources on policing them. It has a "percentage match" system that suggests titles based on previous ones you've watched, after all, so there's probably very little incentive for the platform to keep the reviews section running.
Someone is going to make money with a simple app that lets you click IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes or Metacritic reviews and then go straight from the review to the Netflix movie and visa versa.
Basically, what Amazon Prime currently does with IMDb.
The review issue came about in response to Netflix producing shows that were screaming loud SJW crap dumps.
Can’t say bad things about the narrative.
They’re still on the DVD side. Not that anybody reads them anymore. Just too much maintenance, surprised they kept them so long. Internet 2.0 failed.
Hired Obama
Hired Susan Rice
Fired all the user reviewers
It ALL fits together quite nicely.
Exactly.
socialists love oligarchies.
Wait til the Obamas debut on Netflix.
They thought they were wonderful before......
Now it's gonna be a non-stop "I-love-me-fest" with a little bit of SJW whining thrown in for good measure.
Whats a Netflix? /sc
That’s why I still go to lefty sites like Yahoo or LAT. At least they continue to accept anti- liberal comments as long as you dont curse or threaten.
so we get steered to watching movies by the intelligentsia and elites rather than regular people...
I read them.
But then, I'm old.
I like it because it lets me know if I watched it before. But at my age, re-runs may be a good thing.
NetFlix thinks that people are going to watch all the crap stuff they have when no one can read the reviews and find out how bad it is.
What I think is that people will either find reviews somewhere else or else they will refuse to take a chance on anything that does not sound like it will be good.
Sometimes you could find some good things that you normally would not even check out if it where not for seeing a high rating with the star rating they used to have. Since they took the star rating away if it sounds like junk then why check it out. If you don’t like it then you can’t even delete it from your watch list without a major amount of messing around.
Since NetFlix now has close ties to Obama it is time to dump them anyways.
Even worse, Netflix axed its own produced show "The Red Pill" because of politics - because it honestly showed what the mens rights movement was about. (Pick up recently by Amazon)
It was called Amy Schumer The Leather Special that pushed them to do this.
Isn’t there an alternative to Netflix? What is it?
Books. :-)
Amazon, Hulu, old DVD’s.
A need has opened for an honest review system.
Netflix even Amazon are bad quality.
